Martha Tanedo to retire after 17 years of service at Ohio University
Martha Tanedo, assistant director of financial aid advising, will retire June 1, 2026, after more than 17 years of service at Ohio University.
Tanedo joined Ohio University in 2009 as an academic advisor and later served as coordinator of student support. In addition to advising, Tanedo taught several courses, including UC 1000: Mastering the College Experience and UC 2900: Applied Career Development, that helped students build confidence, define their goals and plan for their futures.
She also partnered with colleague Tanya Hire to develop and launch Ohio University Chillicothe’s Leadership Certificate program, an initiative which gave students a meaningful pathway for personal and professional growth.
Her contributions were recognized in 2018 when she received the Outstanding Administrator Award, presented on the Athens campus by former OHIO President M. Duane Nellis.
That same year, Tanedo transitioned into financial aid advising, supporting students across the Chillicothe and Lancaster campuses. Known for her patience, expertise and deep care for students and families, she became a trusted resource for navigating financial challenges and accessing scholarship support.
“Martha's career at OHIO Chillicothe reflects a genuine commitment to student success at every stage,” said Interim Dean of Campus and Community Relations Michael Lafreniere. “She brought a relentless focus to matching financial support with student need, and she was a tireless advocate for removing the financial barriers that stand between students and their educational goals. Anyone who has worked alongside her or seen her in conversation with a student or a concerned parent knows that she approached every case with patience, expertise, and genuine care."
Over nearly two decades, Tanedo’s work has touched thousands of lives and strengthened student success across two OHIO campuses.
Vice Provost for Regional Higher Education and Partnerships Lewatis McNeal said Martha Tanedo has been the kind of colleague every campus hopes to have.
“She approaches her work with warmth, humility and an unwavering belief in the potential of every student she meets,” McNeal said. “Across our regional campuses, Martha built relationships that go far beyond the office. Her kindness, wisdom and steady presence will be deeply missed by students and colleagues alike.”
