Jackie O’s celebrate brews made by OHIO students

Jackie O’s Pub & Brewery is excited to announce the release of three new student-crafted brews, created in partnership with seniors from Ohio University’s course “the Art of Craft Brewing: The Athens Case Study.” Under the mentorship of Art Oestrike, owner of Jackie O’s Brewery, students developed these beverages to showcase their creativity and collaboration.

This year’s product line features three distinct drinks, including Gone Festing, a pineapple and mango spiked ginger beer crafted on a seltzer base. Alongside it is Bloomin’ on the Bricks, a cherry and lime fruited wheat ale. Completing the trio is the Sunday Scaries stout, a barrel-aged imperial stout conditioned on maple, vanilla, cinnamon, and cinnamon crunch cereal. Additionally, there will be a keg of a class-made sour ale flavored with black currant. Together, these drinks showcase the class’s wide range in brewing styles.

Students participated in every stage of the beverage development process, such as production, intensive recipe creation and hands-on brewing alongside Jackie O’s team. Beyond brewing, students also contributed to marketing efforts, label design, sales strategy and event planning.

The drinks made their debut during Ohio University’s Moms Weekend, with a launch party on Friday, April 10, at the Jackie O’s Taproom.

Local bands 4-Way Stop, Sabbatical and Feline Frenzy along with DJ LNE performed throughout the night, with facility tours for guests to get a behind the scenes look at how Jackie O’s crafts and stores their brews.

To continue to celebrate the brews, Jackie O’s Brewpub on 24 W Union Street will host another opportunity to try these new brews from 6-11 p.m. on Thursday, April 16.

Jackie O’s Brewery and the Art of Craft Brewing class invite those in the Athens community and visitors who are 21 and older to raise a glass and celebrate this achievement.
