Ohio University Dance Team makes history at DTU College Classic National Championships during 35th anniversary season
The Ohio University Dance Team celebrated a milestone season at the Dance Team Union (DTU) College Classic National Championships, marking competitive success, program growth and historic firsts during the team’s 35th anniversary year. Founded in 1991, the Ohio University Dance Team continues to elevate its national presence while expanding opportunities for student‑artists both on and off the competition floor.
This year’s championships were highlighted by the historic debut of the Ohio University Hip Hop team, which advanced to finals in its first-ever national appearance and earned a sixth‑place finish in the Division I category. The routine was choreographed by Ohio University Dance Team Senior Captain Sydney Dadosky, a recent visual communications multimedia graduate, exemplifying the program’s commitment to student leadership and interdisciplinary creativity. In Pom, the Ohio University Dance Team continued its tradition of excellence, placing fourth overall across Division I and Division IA programs and second among Division I peers, reinforcing OHIO’s standing among the nation’s top collegiate dance teams.
Beyond competition results, the Ohio University Dance Team members also participated in Master Dance Clinics hosted by DTU, with multiple team members chosen to audition, and two being hired by DTU Summer Dance Camps, a competitive honor that supports both professional development and career pathways in dance education and performance. Program momentum extended into recruitment, as the team saw a record‑breaking turnout of more than 50 dancers auditioning for the upcoming season—up from approximately 30 the previous year—reflecting growing interest and increased visibility of the program.
"Competitive dance is not only a sport and an art form, but a powerful pathway for career development and university impact," said Andrew Pueschel Ph.D., director of the Ohio University Dance Team. "The skills our students develop include leadership, discipline, creativity, professionalism which translate directly into future careers, while the program itself generates visibility, engagement and revenue‑supporting opportunities for the University."
The team would like to express their gratitude to the generous donors whose support made possible the acquisition of a competition‑size Marley floor, a transformational investment that will significantly enhance training quality, injury prevention and competitive readiness moving forward.
Looking ahead, the Ohio University Dance Team will be transitioning to University College and is preparing for an exciting next chapter as it integrates performance and professional skill building into their 2026/2027 season. The team continues to grow as 20 students have been selected to expand the program's presence across campus. In addition to football and men’s basketball appearances, the team will increase its support of Ohio University Athletics by performing at women’s home basketball games, further strengthening school spirit and community engagement.
As the Ohio University Dance Team celebrates 35 years of excellence, innovation and impact, the future remains focused on elevating competitive success while preparing student‑leaders for meaningful careers beyond the dance floor.
