Natalie Kruse Daniels
Professor and Director of the Environmental Studies Program in the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service
Kruse Daniels was featured in Spectrum News One discussing environmental concerns related to oil and gas waste disposal and the long-term impacts of resource extraction in Ohio and Appalachia. Providing expert analysis on the suspension of injection wells, Kruse Daniels noted that while resource extraction generated significant wealth, “so much of that wealth went to really fuel the growth of the nation, but didn’t necessarily grow wealth in the region.” She also highlighted the lasting environmental consequences visible across Appalachian waterways, explaining that “a lot of our streams have that signature bright orange iron” and that elevated metal concentrations and acidic conditions can severely limit what lives there.
