Sophomore September aims to deepen engagement for second-year students

Ohio University’s Office of Signature Academic Experiences collaborated with campus, community and alumni partners to curate a variety of experiences to help second-year students deepen their connection to campus and community while exploring their academic and career goals.

Sophomore September features a wide range of activities and opportunities designed to support second-year students, including special events hosted by academic colleges, opportunities to talk with alumni, retreats in Columbus and Athens, visits to the Ohio University Challenge Course, and major and career fairs.

While many events, such as the Unexpected Journeys: How I Found My Calling panel and career workshop, are open to all students, others are designed to engage students within specific majors or academic areas, such as the Pre-Law 101: Exploring Pre-Law at Ohio University and the Russ College of Engineering and Technology Meal with a Mentor Level Up Event.

Sophomore September postcards and prizes

On Aug. 14, second-year students were sent a text notification inviting them to participate in Sophomore September and on July 14, more than 4,000 second-year students received a Sophomore September postcard in the mail.

The postcard directed students to a website filled with second-year resources, support services, and engagement opportunities. Thanks to a partnership with Housing and Residence Life, the postcard is also being distributed to second-year students during move-in.

The Sophomore September postcard. It says Level Up at OHIO. Sophomore September Quest. Collect stickers for each event you attend!

The postcard doubles as a "passport" that students can bring to designated events to collect stickers. Students who collect the required number of stickers can redeem their passports for prizes like hats, totes, stickers and a chance to win $100 in Bobcat Cash and a $100 Amazon gift card.

Throughout the month of September, student employees from the Office of Signature Academic Experiences will table outside of the Baker University Center and Chubb Hall to promote Sophomore September and provide more information.

All OHIO second-year students are encouraged to participate and can find more information and registration information at the Sophomore September website.
