Ohio University Libraries introduces new Library Tutorial Course
Ohio University Libraries has developed a new self-paced Library Tutorial Course for OHIO students.
Available through Canvas Commons, the course introduces students to library services, academic support resources, research skills and responsible AI use in academic work.
Students can complete the course independently or instructors may integrate all or part of the content into their courses through Canvas Commons.
The course includes three modules:
- Module 1: Beyond Books and Tutoring – This module Introduces students to campus support services including the Learning Commons, STEM Academy, Writing Commons, Peer Assisted Learning (PAL), subject librarians, study spaces, and technology resources.
- Module 2: Find and Borrow Library Materials - This module teaches students how to locate books and scholarly articles, build effective searches using keywords and Boolean operators, apply filters, and request materials through OhioLINK and Interlibrary Loan.
- Module 3: AI Literacy – This module helps students evaluate AI-generated content, understand ethical and responsible uses of AI in academic work, and explore ways AI tools can support research and search strategies.
The course supports Ohio University Libraries' mission to develop information-literate learners and provides a scalable way to deliver research and library instruction beyond the traditional one-shot classroom session. Because the course is housed in Canvas Commons, it can be easily adopted by instructors across disciplines and campuses.
