OUPD partners with Student Accessibility Services for Blue Envelope Program

Beginning this fall semester, the Ohio University Police Department (OUPD) has partnered with Student Accessibility Services (SAS) to bring a vital accessibility-focused accommodation to Ohio University.

The Blue Envelope Program is a support tool designed to help individuals, notably those with communication differences or sensitivities, to more effectively communicate with law enforcement during interactions that may involve heightened stimuli, such as traffic stops. The envelope includes an area on the front for identification information and below, a space available for the individual to include special notes about preferred communication styles and other details that may be critical to share with law enforcement.

“We are excited to partner with OUPD on the Blue Envelope Program! I think this will be a great resource for some of our students including those in our ASPECT program (which seeks to enhance communication strategies for students with Autism diagnoses), and anyone who identifies as neurodivergent,” said Kristi Kozma, assistant director for Student Accessibility.

Blue Envelopes are now available through Accessibility Services located on the first floor of Alden Library and in the public lobby at OUPD, 118 Ridges Circle Drive.
