Science Café to feature Professor Eric Stinaff on Oct. 7

Ohio University will host the next Science Café of the fall semester on Wednesday, Oct. 7, in the Baker University Center Front Room.

Beginning at 5 p.m., the event will feature a presentation by Professor Eric Stinaff on “Schrödinger's Cat: Wanted Dead AND Alive.”

The weird "spooky" world of quantum mechanics lies at the heart of the incredible potential of quantum technologies.

This Science Café will explore how phenomena such as superposition and entanglement are being harnessed to create new kinds of computers, sensors and secure communications.

Along the way, Stinaff will also try to cut through the hype, look at some real-world quantum technologies, and ask a simple question: What can quantum physics actually do for us that ordinary technology can't?

Science Café is a free, informal series that brings Ohio University researchers and the community together to talk about science over coffee. Everyone is welcome, and no science background is needed.
