University College announces chair of new Department of Applied Sciences and Professions
University College Interim Dean Carey Busch has announced the appointment of Allison White as chair of the new Applied Sciences and Professions Department.
Ohio University’s Board of Trustees approved the new department this summer. The Applied Studies and Professions Department is comprised of the Associate in Applied Science in Law Enforcement Technology, the Associate in Technical Studies, and the Bachelor of Technical and Applied Studies, as well as Office Administration Technology and Real Estate Pre-licensure courses. Eight faculty members who teach courses in these programs form the core of this new department.
“Bringing these degrees into one department will allow us to move the programs forward and better serve students who are seeking to prepare for, or advance in, their careers with the help of OHIO’s applied and technical studies programs,” Busch said.
White, an associate professor who has taught at OHIO for the past 12 years, will chair the new department. Before joining the faculty at OHIO, White spent 15 years working for American Electric Power. She has also taught at the high school level. White is currently completing her dissertation for a Ph.D. in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Ohio University.
“Working with associate and bachelor’s degree-seeking students has allowed me the opportunity to support students as they move through their entire undergraduate career,” White said. “I am excited to collaborate with our program coordinators and faculty to support these programs and the students they serve in multiple communities. The formation of this new department will allow us to elevate applied studies at Ohio University and create new opportunities.”
