OHIO community to celebrate international students who are graduating this spring

Spring 2022 commencement will mark the culmination of a truly remarkable academic journey for Ohio University students. 

During the pandemic, international students navigated numerous challenges, from visa office closures and travel restrictions, to financial hurdles impacting their ability to focus on their studies. 

This spring, around 160 international students from 49 countries have applied for graduation, including 33 undergraduates, 82 masters, and 42 doctoral students. The graduating students come from the following colleges: College of Arts and Sciences 44, College of Business 16, Scripps College of Communication 12, Patton College of Education 14, Russ College of Engineering and Technology 33, College of Fine Arts 17, Graduate College 3, Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service 3, College of Health Sciences and Professions 5, and Center for International Studies 13. 

The Office of Global Affairs and International Student and Faculty Services, along with President Hugh Sherman, invite international graduates and their OHIO faculty and administrative supporters to join a celebration event on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Howard Park. 

Check in begins at 10:30 a.m., and program remarks will take place at 11 a.m. Networking and festivities, including photo opportunities and global flags on College Green, will occur from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. 

Diane Cahill, director of International Student and Faculty Services, who also serves as the advisor for the International Student Union shares, “It has been an extraordinary journey for our international students as they have completed their academic programs and I feel very privileged, indeed, to have been part of the OHIO faculty and staff community which has championed and supported their endeavors. We are thrilled to celebrate our international graduates and mark this spring’s commencement with this event and revel in the connections that have made us all so resilient and strong.”
