Student registration now open for International Education Week activities

Ohio University celebrates International Education Week each year in November to champion the University’s excellence in global education through research, teaching and experiential learning. This year’s programming will focus on students’ globally engaged research and creative activity endeavors. 

International Education Week (IEW) is an annual joint initiative by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences in the United States.

Many exciting events, workshops and lectures take place across OHIO’s campuses throughout the week to highlight international education and opportunities. Find out more about how to get involved and participate, and see the most current events listings, by visiting the Calendar or IEW website.

Some of the week’s signature events require registration or student submissions. To take part in the research symposium, photo contest or the thesis preparation workshop, here are the details you need:

IEW Student Global Research Symposium

Wednesday, Nov. 16
11 a.m. – 1 p.m. 
Baker MCC 219

Students (all levels) are invited to present their internationally focused research or creative activity to be highlighted.

• In-person: present your research
  • Wednesday, Nov. 16 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in Baker MCC 219
  • Three-minute presentation of your internationally focused research or creative activity
  • Adjudicated by IEW Committee for research support funding prizes: 1st Place ($500), 2nd Place ($350), and 3rd Place ($200)
  • Apply by Oct. 31 to participate at https://ohio.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8CgVUnvf2VgjZoG 
• Online feature: posters and one-minute thesis videos
  • New and past research is accepted
  • Not adjudicated, share your research excellence with the OHIO community
  • Shared on www.ohio.edu/iew and social media during IEW

IEW Photo Contest

Nov. 14-18, 2022
Alden Library, First Floor, International Collections

The International Education Week Photo Contest is accepting submissions until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31, 2022.

The contest is open to all OHIO students, alumni, staff, and faculty and features five unique categories:

• People: Children, adults, families, and self portraits 
• Crossing Cultures: Cross-cultural interaction
• Sense of Place: Capture the essence of what makes a place unique 
• Bobcats: Near and Far: Subjects wearing OHIO attire or displaying Bobcat pride  
• Global Impact: Share your insight about what is impacting our world and/or how we are addressing it

There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each category. Winners will be announced in early November and photos will be displayed during IEW in Alden Library’s First Floor International Collections and featured on the IEW Photo Contest page. Winners will be invited to present their photos at a reception at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Submissions can be made by students, faculty, staff, and alumni through Qualtrics no later than Monday, Oct. 31. Photographs must be the original work of the entrant. Participants can submit up to 10 photos, two in each category. Questions regarding the submission process can be sent to globalaffairs@ohio.edu. 

Workshop: Adding to Your Thesis and Dissertation Toolbox

Participating in international research is a wonderful opportunity for students to enhance their academic experience. The Office of Global Affairs is thrilled to partner with Patton College of Education, the Division of Research and the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards to share more information about how to pursue excellence in your research as well as thesis or dissertation. 

This workshop will share valuable resources about how to strengthen and clarify your proposal and how to identify and effectively apply for funding, both internal OHIO opportunities and outside the university. Guest experts include Roxanne Malé-Brune, director of Grants Development and Projects, and Christopher Lewis, director of the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards.
