Call for nominations: Experiential Learning Community-of-Practice Fellows

Ohio University's Office of Experiential Learning, the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (CTLA), and the Provost’s Office are happy to announce the first Experiential Learning Community-of- Practice, which will be composed of six fellows.

The goal of this Community-of-Practice is to equip the fellows with knowledge and training in experiential learning and partner engagement best practices to enable them to develop their own courses and establish mutually beneficial partnerships. 

The fellows will receive training and support from the Office of Experiential Learning and CTLA, and are expected to: 

• Develop a course (or modify an existing course) that will involve an experiential learning component and submit it for the Learning and Doing BRICKS designation, 
• Participate in and contribute to the creation of an online Experiential Learning Resource that will serve faculty and staff who are interested in experiential learning, 
• Facilitate a partnership (with an outside partner) in their chosen unit with support from the Executive Director of Employer Engagement, 
• Help organize and participate in a presentation on experiential learning best practices and curriculum processes within their own unit. 

The community of practice activities will take place in the second half of the Spring 2024 semester, but fellows are welcome to continue working on the projects specified above during Summer I session. The expected time commitment (including the training) is around 30 hours. There is a $500 stipend associated with the fellowship, to be paid to the fellows upon the completion of the four tasks above. 

While working on the projects above, fellows are expected to participate in four 90-minute training sessions on the experiential learning best practices and the relevant curricular processes during Spring 2024 (one workshop in person, three workshops on Teams). The fellows will receive individual support in course development and partnership facilitation.  

Eligibility: Every OHIO instructional and tenure track faculty member is eligible. Familiarity with experiential learning best practices and application is preferred, but not required.
