Classic Teams discontinuation: Upgrade instructions, support

Beginning on July 1, 2025, Classic Teams will no longer be available for Ohio University students, faculty and staff. To avoid any disruptions, all members of the OHIO community are asked to update to the latest version of Teams.

Microsoft previously announced the end of support for Classic Teams beginning July 1, 2024. The end of availability of the Classic Teams client is July 1, 2025.  

Please note: To check your version of Teams, click the three dots next to your profile image, select Settings, then select About Teams. Under Version, you should see “You’ve got the latest version.”

Upgrade instructions

For users with “Upgrade Now”

If presented with an Upgrade Now option when checking your version of Teams, please select that option to upgrade to the latest version.  

For users with older operating systems

If you are using Windows 10 21H2 or older, macOS older than Big Sur, LTSC, or have configuration issues, please upgrade your operating system to support the new Teams client.

For users unable to upgrade

If you cannot upgrade your current device, you can still access Teams using a supported web browser.

  • Open your web browser
  • Go to the Teams web login page at teams.microsoft.com
  • Sign in with your OHIO credentials

Upgrading to the latest Teams client will provide enhanced features, improved security, and a better user experience. If you encounter any issues during the upgrade process, please contact the Ohio University Office of Information Technology Service Desk
