OHIO Southern fall Community Education Workshops announced

Ohio University Southern is inviting the community to explore new interests, uncover local history, and dive into the unexplained through a new series of Community Education Workshops starting this August.
Designed for learners of all backgrounds, the workshops are open to the public and do not require prior educational experience. Topics range from painting and storytelling to history and the paranormal.
“We believe that learning should be a lifelong experience and a source of joy at every stage,” said Teresa Smith, community programming coordinator at Ohio University Southern. “These workshops offer a chance for people to discover new passions, connect with others, and be part of the vibrant learning community here at OHIO Southern.”
The first workshop, Sip and Paint: Starry Night, will be held on Aug. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. Local artist and educator Charlie Haskins will lead participants through a step-by-step painting session inspired by Van Gogh’s Starry Night. The $50 registration fee includes all materials.
In September, Hidden Stories: The Underground Railroad will offer a four-part series on Sept. 9, 16, 23 and 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. Historian Chris Saunders will guide participants through powerful local narratives of resilience and hope. This workshop will be available both in person and virtually, with a cost of $30 for all sessions.
For those intrigued by the mysteries of the unknown, Paranormal Phenomena and Local Mysteries will take place Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. Participants will explore tales of Bigfoot, UFOs, ghostly encounters, and more with instructor Todd Martin. Registration for the full four-session series is $30.
Smith emphasized that the workshops are intended to be accessible and community-centered.
“We’re listening closely to what our community is interested in—whether it’s art, history, or local folklore—and we’re excited to offer programming that reflects those interests,” she said. “We also welcome feedback and suggestions for future classes.”
Workshops are self-supporting and do not carry academic credit. All ages are welcome unless otherwise noted.
