Upgrading Ohio University's telephone infrastructure

Ohio University has launched a multi-phase initiative to modernize its telephone systems and enhance the communication infrastructure across campus.

This project, which began in the summer of 2024, is designed to establish a more reliable, flexible and scalable foundation to support current and future communication needs across the institution.

Key project activities

The Telephone Modernization Project focuses on three main areas:

  1. Microsoft Teams Calling migration – The transition to Microsoft Teams Calling is currently underway. As part of this process, project members are actively engaging with planning units to facilitate a smooth migration.
  2. Infrastructure upgrades – Enhancements to the underlying communication infrastructure will ensure reliable and high-quality service.
  3. Call center solution – An improved solution will be implemented to streamline call center operations, improving responsiveness and support for departments that rely on high-volume phone services.

Why this matters

This initiative supports the University’s broader digital transformation goals by reducing reliance on aging technologies and aligning communication systems with modern work and learning environments. As part of the Teams Calling migration phase, outreach to planning units is currently underway to help ensure a smooth transition.
