OHIO faculty invited to engage in Community-Engaged Scholars, Faculty Civic Champions programs

All OHIO faculty are encouraged to participate in two key initiatives this academic year: the Community-Engaged Scholars program and the Faculty Civic Champions program. 

Both opportunities are designed to strengthen faculty teaching and service through civic and community engagement.

Community-Engaged Scholars

The Community-Engaged Scholars program supports faculty in advancing community-engaged research and scholarship. Through this initiative, OHIO faculty will join a cohort of peers committed to producing impactful scholarship that addresses community needs and contributes to Ohio University’s mission of engagement.

Dr. Jacqueline Yahn will be leading the program as the 2025-26 Community Engagement Faculty Fellow. Participants who complete the program receive a $250 stipend, and $250 upon submission of a successful community engaged course proposal.

Faculty Civic Champions

The Faculty Civic Champions program provides faculty with classroom-ready resources—including interactive tutorials, lesson plans, and communication materials—to help integrate nonpartisan civic engagement into the classroom.

Champions receive recognition for participation and are encouraged to adapt activities such as the Bobcat Voter Pledge, civic dialogue assignments, or digital literacy tutorials to inspire students to become active and informed citizens. Participants receive a civic engagement-themed lapel pin and coffee mug.

Faculty from all campuses and disciplines are encouraged to get involved. These programs provide professional development, tools to develop student engagement opportunities, and recognition for faculty leadership in civic and community engagement.
