Alex Sheen brings message of accountability, integrity to OHIO Zanesville

A promise is easy to make and even easier to break. Alex Sheen built a global movement on changing that.

He is the founder of the internationally-known nonprofit organization, "because I said I would," which is dedicated to encouraging people to make and keep meaningful commitments. Sheen is also a five-time TEDxTalk speaker, and will bring his powerful message of accountability and commitment to Ohio University Zanesville on Thursday, Sept. 11.

Sheen will speak from 4 to 5 p.m. in Elson Hall Auditorium, followed by a meet and greet. The event is free and open to the public.

Sheen launched "because I said I would," after the death of his father, whose life inspired him to honor the importance of a promise. Since its founding, the nonprofit has distributed more than 15 million “promise cards” to people in 178 countries, serving as tangible reminders that integrity begins with keeping commitments.

Sheen’s talks blend emotional storytelling with real-world examples, from walking 240 miles across Ohio in just 10 days to fulfill a pledge, to volunteering with 52 nonprofits in a single year. His work has captured international attention, with features on CNN, NPR, ABC World News and the TODAY Show.

Supported through a CARE Team grant, Sheen’s visit gives the Zanesville community the opportunity to hear one of today’s most compelling voices on how keeping promises can strengthen individuals, families and communities.
