OHIO's CIBED leadership explores and secures expanded partnership opportunities in Botswana

Leaders from Ohio University’s Center for International Business Education and Development (CIBED) recently completed an exploratory mission to Gaborone, Botswana, focused on expanding the Global Consulting Program and strengthening existing ties with the University of Botswana.
Dr. Andrew Pueschel, CIBED executive director, along with Stephanie Sharp, CIBED director of operations and student development, and Judd Walker, assistant director of consulting programs, traveled to Botswana in May to explore opportunities for undergraduate students to participate in short-term business internships through a deepened academic and professional partnership. The initiative supports CIBED’s mission to cultivate global business competencies and practical experience for Ohio University students.
During the visit, the team was warmly welcomed and guided by retired OHIO faculty member and Botswana resident Ms. Beatrice Selotlogeng and Mr. Thuso Mphela, senior lecturer at the University of Botswana. Their efforts facilitated a series of high-level engagements, including meetings with the University of Botswana’s Vice Chancellor and other institutional leaders. These discussions centered on potential academic collaborations, internship structures and mutual goals for cross-cultural exchange.

The visit to Botswana also included a memorable cultural experience at a Baharutshe Village, offering a rich introduction to Botswana’s traditional heritage and community values. The journey culminated in a final evening of dinner and dialogue focused on future initiatives. The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including Former Botswana Ambassador to America and current Chancelor of the University of Botswana, H.E. Tebelelo Seretse; Kenya Ambassador to Botswana H.E. Sabdiyo Dido Bashuna; OHIO alumna Dr. Lorraine Koobokile; and Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Botswana, Dr. Branko I. Cavrić, reflecting the broad support for international academic partnerships.
In August, leaders from CIBED and the University of Botswana formalized their partnership and launched the Southern Africa Global Consulting Program, expanding the South Africa GCP to include Botswana. The engagement also prompted meaningful dialogue around additional program opportunities, such as the Ohio International Consulting Program’s Visiting International Partners (VIP).
“This marks an exciting chapter as we continue to pursue innovative opportunities that align with our long-term vision,” said Pueschel. “The CIBED door is open to unique and cultural opportunities that will enrich experiential learning on both campuses—and for many years to come.”
CIBED remains committed to providing Global Access with Global Impact and creating transformative experiential learning opportunities for students, faculty and partners alike.
