University emergency closure policy reminder

As the winter weather season begins, Ohio University Human Resources wants to remind the OHIO community about the University’s emergency closure procedures.

Only the president or their designee can officially close the University, as outlined in University Policy 40.051. When an official closure occurs, compensation will follow the guidelines in Policy 40.051, and the specific instructions for employee pay during an emergency closure. Employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement should refer to their contract for details.

In a declared emergency, certain employees may be required to work to provide essential services. These essential service employees will be designated and contacted by their department heads or supervisors and will be assigned to work schedules as required by the nature of the emergency situation.

Employees who have not been designated as essential service employees, but are scheduled to work, will not be required to work during a declared emergency unless they are assigned and work a 100 percent-remote appointment.

Employees with questions about these procedures should reach out to their supervisors for support. Human Resources is also available to assist both employees and supervisors as needed.

If you are uncertain about the status of an event planned on your campus, please contact the event organizer(s) directly.
