As OHIO entered a new era in both size and scope, faculty excellence in research and engagement with current events continued to drive OHIO forever forward in 2025. With contributions from across the University, OHIO Today continues to grow along with the University, reflecting Bobcat excellence.

Banning TikTok: A turning point for U.S. data security? January 29

As debates over TikTok intensified, Ohio University experts helped cut through the noise with clarity and context. The story examined national security, data governance, and the implications for social media users. Faculty laid out what a potential ban could mean in practice, from data oversight to the future of digital platforms used by millions of Americans.

This designation marked a milestone year for the institution. The story framed the Carnegie classification not as an endpoint, but as recognition of Ohio’s long-standing commitment to access, outcomes, and student success. For alumni and stakeholders, it put language to work that’s been happening for decades.

What started as undergraduate curiosity turned into a brand-new scientific discovery. This story followed an Ohio University undergraduate and professor as they identified and documented previously unrecognized violet species.
