Dr. Beth Quitslund named vice provost for faculty affairs
Ohio University Executive Vice President and Provost Donald J. Leo has named Dr. Beth Quitslund as OHIO’s vice provost for faculty affairs, effective May 26, 2026.
Quitslund currently serves as chair of the Department of English and the Samuel and Susan Crowl Professor of English in OHIO’s College of Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Katie Hartman, who currently serves as OHIO’s vice provost for faculty development, was named as interim dean of the College of Business, effective July 1, after Dean Jackie Rees Ulmer announced she would step down and return to faculty in the Department of Analytics and Information Systems.
Quitslund has taught at OHIO since 1999 and held several leadership positions, including interim associate dean of the Graduate College, faculty fellow for graduate education, vice chair of the Ohio Faculty Council, and chair of Faculty Senate. In addition, Quitslund has served on university-wide committees including the Institutional Accreditation Committee, the Reimagining General Education Task Force, University Graduate Council and the Executive Committee of the Chairs and Directors Council where she currently serves as chair.
“Dr. Beth Quitslund is an outstanding leader who is dedicated to faculty success. She brings significant leadership experience to this position, and I am confident she will serve as a strong advocate for faculty at all stages of their careers,” Leo said. “She also will help us navigate evolving legislative requirements, such as those related to workload, annual evaluation, and post-tenure review.”
The vice provost for faculty affairs serves as a member of the executive vice president and provost’s senior staff and oversees the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (CTLA) and Office of Instructional Design (OID). The role also leads critical administrative processes, such as promotion and tenure, faculty fellowship leaves, and dean evaluations.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to support and collaborate with OHIO’s faculty as we adapt to many kinds of changes to our professional lives,” Quitslund said. “I’m also looking forward to working with the talented and committed staff at the CTLA and OID and to fostering the professional development capacity that Katie Hartman has done so much to create in the past five years.”
