'Walk, Talk and Roll' with Athens City Commission on Disabilities on April 10

The Athens City Commission on Disabilities invites all members of the Ohio University community to “Walk, Talk and Roll” on Friday, April 10.

The event will focus on accessibility issues in Athens and will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Athens City Courthouse at 1 South Court St. in Athens. All students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to attend. During “Walk, Talk and Roll,” there will be activities and discussions focused on the issue of accessibility in the city of Athens.

The event offers a chance for participants to walk or roll around to various information stations located within a couple of blocks from the courthouse. The information stations will be interactive and cover a variety of themes, from sidewalk policy to public transportation and parking.

“When we make our city accessible, it makes it better for everyone. We look forward to discussing accessibility and advocacy with community members” says Rob Delach, who serve on the Accessibility and Advocacy Committee for the Athens City Commission on Disabilities.

“Walk, Talk and Roll” also includes the Court Street Challenge with wheelchairs available for anyone wanting to try navigating the Court Street bricks within the traffic signal’s allotted timeframe.

Refreshments and pizza will be provided to participants.

“The commission would like to hear your stories and experiences around accessibility in the city, said Annah Korpi, chair of the Athens City Commission on Disabilities. “Whether a community member with lived experience or a business owner or college student, we want everyone's ideas about what projects you feel should be undertaken to make our community more accessible and welcoming to all.”

ASL interpreters will be available during the event. For more information, email disabilitiescommission@ci.athens.oh.us or see the Athens City Commission on Disabilities website.
