Scripps Young Alumni Council opens application for new members
Scripps Young Alumni Council applications are now open for alumni interested in joining as new members.
Established in 2024, the Scripps Young Alumni Council has provided a vital link between young alumni and Ohio University's Scripps College of Communication, fostering student engagement and offering valuable insights.
“Our second year of the program truly focused on student engagement,” said Erin Roberts, director of student development for the Scripps College of Communication. “Students in the college were invited to participate in a mentorship program with the Young Alumni Council members, and young alumni presented and encourage students through both in-person and virtual class visits and student organization sessions.”
The Scripps Young Alumni Council was created to provide a platform for alumni who have graduated within the last 15 years to stay connected with the college, offer mentorship to current students and contribute to the future of the college.
“Everyone on the council is a rockstar in their field because of the skills and experiences they built at OU,” Wes Temple, BSC ’21 said. “Now we’re able to give students that ‘gift of going second.’ We help them with things like portfolios, networking and real-world feedback so they’re entering the industry with confidence.”
Throughout the year, the council engages in a variety of activities, including virtual meetings, networking events, and collaborative discussions with college leadership and the Dean's Advisory Council. During the 2026 spring semester, students from Vivid.ou, a student-run multimedia consulting agency, presented to the Scripps Young Alumni Council.
“We showcased the work Vivid has accomplished in just three semesters,” said Isabella Jimenez, a May 2026 graduate of the School of Visual Communication. “It was an amazing chance to connect with hardworking young alumni, share our journey, and gain valuable insights.”
As the Scripps Young Alumni Council moves into its third year, the college is seeking passionate and dedicated young alumni to join. New members will have the opportunity to contribute to the council's growing impact, connect with fellow alumni and play a direct role in supporting the next generation of Scripps communicators.
While there is no membership fee for the Scripps Young Alumni Council, members will pay for their own transportation and lodging in Athens for the October and March on-campus sessions. During the in-person professional development sessions, council members will receive catered meals.
Applications for the Scripps Young Alumni Council opened June 8 and close on July 7 at 11:59 p.m. Interested alumni who have graduated from the Scripps College of Communication within the last 15 years are encouraged to apply.
