Ohio University Chillicothe to exhibit work of Central Ohio artist Michael Kirk

Ohio University Chillicothe’s Patricia Scott Memorial Art Gallery will feature “Dive In,” an exhibition of artwork by Central Ohio artist Michael Kirk, beginning with an opening reception on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026, at 6 p.m. The reception will feature live music and light refreshments.

Kirk creates across several mediums: oil, acrylic, watercolor and cut paper. He focuses on bright colors, juxtaposition and bold black outlines in his expressive works. His current paintings focus on abstract figures with repeating spheres and patterns. Kirk starts new pieces with a curiosity that allows him to dive in without knowing which direction he is going.

"Art is a vital form of communication and expression, and we are excited to showcase the talents and creativity of Michael Kirk on the campus of Ohio University Chillicothe," said Dean of Campus and Community Engagement Mike Lafreniere. "I appreciate how Michael starts each piece with curiosity; that’s the same spirit we hope our students bring to their own learning. It’s a privilege to welcome an artist from neighboring Pickaway County whose work is so vibrant, bold and full of life, and I encourage everyone to join us for the opening reception.”

The exhibition runs from Thursday, Oct. 22 through Monday, Nov. 30, 2026. The OHIO Chillicothe Patricia Scott Memorial Art Gallery, located on the first floor of Bennett Hall, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
