Graduate students invited to register for Three Minute Thesis® Competition

Graduate students at Ohio University are invited to participate in the Three Minute Thesis® Competition (3MT).

Registration for the competition opens Monday, Jan. 16, at 9 a.m. and will be capped at 32 entrants, so students are encouraged to apply early.

"Doctoral and master’s students have three minutes to present a compelling oration on their thesis and its significance. 3MT isn’t about trivializing or ‘dumbing-down' research; instead it challenges students to consolidate their ideas and present them concisely to a non-specialist audience," said Roxanne Male'-Brune, senior director of grant development and projects in the Research division.

This year's prizes are sponsored by alumna Rene Paulson, founder of Elite Research LLC. who earned a B.A. in Psychology from the College of Arts and Sciences. Prizes are: $2,000 (first place), $1,000 (second place), $500 (third place) and $250 for each remaining finalist. Two People's Choice Awards ($100) will be given, one each to a master's and doctoral student.

Competitions will be held as four semi-final heats on Feb. 15 and 16. Each heat will be capped at eight participants for a total of 32 participants. The top two participants from each semi-final heat will be invited to take part in the final round on Feb. 23. All participants must be available to participate in one of the semi-final heats and the final round.

Registration opens Jan. 16, at 9 a.m. and closes on Jan. 23 at 5 p.m. or sooner if the cap of 32 entrants is reached.
