CRM reimplementation to transform Undergraduate Admissions at OHIO

Ohio University has launched a major system reimplementation to make the journey of becoming a Bobcat easier, faster and more intuitive while modernizing the process for students and the faculty and staff who are supporting them.
This full reimplementation of Slate, OHIO’s constituent relationship management platform, began in January 2024 and has been led by Katie Troyer, executive director of Enrollment Marketing and Operations in the Division of Enrollment Management. The project has depended on close collaboration with the talented staff members of the Office of Information Technology (OIT) and University Communications and Marketing (UCM).
Vice President for Enrollment Management Candace J. Boeninger praised Troyer and the reimplementation team for a successful launch.
“OHIO is fortunate to have Katie, an expert in constituent relationship management systems and enrollment marketing solutions, to lead this project,” said Boeninger. “This was her seventh CRM deployment, and the team she assembled has already made a lasting impact with this launch.”
A student-first focus
According to Boeninger, the new system supports a more agile, data-driven and student-centered approach to undergraduate recruitment and enrollment across all OHIO campuses and online.
In the first phase of the rollout, which began Aug. 1, students applying to the Athens campus for spring, summer or fall 2026 will experience a redesigned application process and a new personalized portal featuring real-time status updates, digital admission letters and branded next steps.
Troyer emphasized the student-first focus of the initiative.
“This reimplementation was built with students at the heart of every decision,” she said. “By providing real-time tools, easier navigation and faster responses, we’re creating a more intuitive and supportive admissions experience that helps students move from application to enrollment with confidence.”
Upcoming milestones
Additional milestones over the coming months include launches for regional campuses and OHIO Online, updated communication flows, and new workflows for more selective program reviews.
For faculty and staff, the reimplementation brings streamlined processes, improved data access, enhanced reporting through integrations with OHIO’s data warehouse, and tighter connections across the University’s Slate ecosystem.
Since OHIO first implemented its undergraduate Slate instance in 2016, both Slate’s capabilities and the University’s enrollment strategies have evolved significantly. This reimplementation enables a full realignment of the system with current and future institutional priorities — streamlining workflows, improving communication, enhancing data integration and reducing administrative complexity. A complete transition from the legacy Slate system is expected by February 2026.
